System for control of the hot metal cutting point

Engineers at Mallenom Systems have developed a system which controls the point of a cut for hot rolled metal. The order for such system was received from Severstal PJSC. For this system, due to the harsh industrial environment, the engineers had to construct specialised water-cooled container for the line scan smart camera. This camera surveys the mill in the real time at 5000 lines per second.

When semi-finished rolled products enter the camera view, the system defines visible width of the rolled product. When pre-specify condition is met, the system issues a signal to perform a cut with flying shears. The control point is located in the harsh industrial environment due to the extreme temperatures of rolled metal.
