ARDIS.SDK

SDK for railcar number recognition system

ARDIS.SDK is a software development kit that allows software developers to add railcar inventory number recognition functionality to third-party software.

The recognition service included in the SDK is designed to work on Microsoft Windows OS. Custom versions of the SDK for Linux OS are available upon request. The platform used by the third-party software can be any.

ARDIS.SDK includes:

  • Railcar number recognition software, which is a Windows OS service with HTTP API
  • Documentation for integrating the recognition software into third-party software
  • Examples of integrating the recognition software into third-party software
  • Copy protection key

Integration into third-party software:

  • HTTP API — integration using HTTP requests

Technical requirements for running the recognition software:

  • Windows 10/11 OS or newer
  • Microsoft .NET 9 or newer
  • CPU: Intel Core-i5 and higher
  • RAM: 16 GB or more
  • Video accelerator (graphics card) with nVidia CUDA or DirectML support is recommended

Main characteristics:

  • Number recognition accuracy: 95–99% for numbers in satisfactory condition, when using 4 cameras
  • Number of video cameras: from 1 to 4 units (4 units recommended for best recognition quality)

    Input data:

  • video stream from IP cameras in MJPEG/H.264/H.265 format, etc.
  • event of railcar entering/exiting the camera's field of view

    Output data:

  • text representation of the railcar number in Russian Railways format with additional metadata (timestamp, reliability, etc.)

The event of a railcar entering/exiting the camera field of view is provided by third-party software. The source of these events can be hardware devices, such as integrated railway scales, beam sensors, etc., or software triggers, such as events from the GUI.

Requirements for numbers:

  • Railcar numbers must be applied in accordance with the established standards of JSC "Russian Railways" (Rules of Technical Operation, album "Signs and Inscriptions on Freight Rolling Stock of 1520 mm Gauge")
  • Distance from the camera lens to the railway track axis for number reading: 3–6 m (depends on the lens)
  • Lighting: one spotlight of at least 3000 Lm per camera
  • Railcar movement mode: dynamic (movement of railcars without rolling back), stops are possible
