Linoleum sheet defect detection at JUTEKS production facility

In September 2025, Mallenom Systems successfully implemented the VISCONT system at the JUTEKS manufacturing facility in the Vladimir region. The objective was to ensure continuous visual quality control of linoleum sheets passing through three inspection zones on the production line:

  • Zone 1 – inspection of the “raw” sheet before additional layer application
  • Zone 2 – inspection after additional layer application
  • Zone 3 – edge inspection of the finished sheet

Three cameras were installed in each of the first two zones to cover the entire sheet surface, and two cameras were installed in the third zone to monitor the sheet edge. An encoder connected in parallel to all eight cameras synchronizes image capture with sheet movement, ensuring precise correlation between images and material speed.

The VISCONT system installed at the operator workstation provides real-time defect detection and generates visual quality statistics for each production cycle.

System operation principle

As the sheet passes through inspection zones, line-scan cameras continuously capture its surface. The images are transmitted to a computing module where they are analyzed using video analytics algorithms.

The system automatically detects surface defects, including: dense foreign inclusions, loose fiberglass fragments, insects, scratches and paste delamination, voids in the sheet, localized compaction on the reverse side, edge blistering, paste layer peeling after blistering, and other deviations affecting product quality.

When a defect is detected, a pop-up window displaying the image fragment appears automatically, highlighting the problematic area with a red frame, accompanied by an audible alert.

Each detected defect is automatically stored in the VISCONT database. Users can track the time of occurrence, inspection zone, and original frame with highlighted fragment. All collected data is used for further analysis, reporting, and statistical quality control.

Implementation Results

Implementation of the VISCONT system enabled automation of visual quality control at key stages of linoleum production. The system ensures continuous real-time defect detection without stopping the production line, allowing rapid response to deviations and improved process stability.

The implementation resulted in:

  • Increased defect detection accuracy and speed
  • Reduced human factor influence
  • Lower defect rates and production losses
  • Centralized database for analysis and reporting
