ARDIS crossed the threshold of 100 implementations at enterprises in Russia and the CIS

This fall, ARDIS, video monitoring and railcar identification system passed an important milestone — more than 100 successful implementations at enterprises across Russia and the CIS.
From the first steps to major projects for leading companies, ARDIS has firmly established its place in the field of automation, becoming a reliable tool for managing logistics and railway transportation operations. In this article, we describe the key projects, the evolution of the system, and its future prospects.

The beginning of the path

The history of ARDIS (ARSCIS until 2022) began in 2007 with cooperation with LUKOIL, one of the world’s largest oil and gas companies. The first implementation of the system took place at Volgograd and Ukhta Refineries, owned by LUKOIL. The system based on railcar number identification technology integrated with Mettler Toledo Anaconda railcar scales was used for product shipment accounting. The achieved high rates of railcar number identification and automation of railcar record allowed to significantly increase the speed of shipment and reduce labor costs. This first successful implementation was the starting point for the system, which soon gained the trust of the refiners and started to develop actively.

The key projects: Bashneft

One of the most significant ARDIS projects was delivered to Bashneft in 2011-2012, implying automation of 21 sites at the company's branches. The project was not easy: it required the integration of heterogeneous systems and equipment, including railcar scales from different manufacturers and loading racks. But thanks to the work of our specialists, Bashneft was able to significantly improve the level of control and accounting for its products.
In the course of the project implementation, a unique business logic was applied. It allowed sending alarm signals to the security service in case a departing railcar was not weighed. The accumulated experience became the basis for subsequent implementation of ARDIS at oil refineries in Omsk, Tobolsk, Mozyr (Belarus), Krasnodar, and others.

The key projects: Yaroslavl Refinery

Another important stage in the system development was the implementation of 11 ARDIS systems at one of the largest oil refineries in Russia – Yaroslavl Refinery in 2022. The customer set the following tasks: control of railcars at checkpoints, tracking of loading levels and automation of reporting for the security service. During the project, «Multi-AWS» (automated workstation) was developed, which greatly simplified the work of operators and made it possible to control several railway lines simultaneously. Thanks to the implementation of ARDIS, the client was able to manage the movement of railcars at checkpoints, monitor loading levels and automate reporting to security services, which increased the transparency and efficiency of all stages of the logistics chain.

The key projects: Tugnuyskaya Coal Preparation Plant

In 2024, a large-scale project was completed — the installation of 11 ARDIS systems at the Tugnuyskaya Coal Preparation Plant. Implementation of the systems provided end-to-end video monitoring of railcars passing through entry control, oiling and loading points. The adaptation of ARDIS software by Mallenom Systems specialists allowed keeping records of the consumption of preventive fluid for railcar inner oiling. It increased economic efficiency of the enterprise and labor discipline of the personnel involved in the oiling process, as well as reduced the risks of receiving complaints from customers about coal freezing to railcar edges during the cold season.

ARDIS today

Now that ARDIS has passed the threshold of more than 100 implementations, it continues to prove its indispensability at enterprises in various industries. The flexibility and adaptability of the system allows for its customization to individual customer needs, as well as ensuring high level of automation and security. The development team is continuously working on improving the identification algorithms and expanding the functionality of the system. ARDIS of 2024 works reliably in the conditions of delays and reverse motion of railcars, recognizes numbers not only of cars but also of containers, has a web-interface for remote work, and performs self-diagnostics. One of the promising tracks of the system development is its application for control of cars dislocation on the railway lines of the enterprise and tracking of their movement in the territory. ARDIS continues to evolve, offering new solutions for even more companies that seek innovation and efficiency in railway transport management.
